Some of you may or may not know the situation in New Mexico, but drought conditions are pretty much shutting down the entire state for recreation. No one really knows when things we’ll be re-opened but all we can do is pray for rain! It seems that Colorado is getting fairly good moisture and should have viable spots for fly-fishing, backpacking, camping, and other recreation.
This problem we have been seeing for some time, as customers trickle in the shop telling us about their planned vacation in New Mexico. We reluctantly have to let them down with the sad news about the closings. This part of Texas makes people crazy this time of year, especially if you can’t find some sort of escape from the searing heat. There’s always East Texas, but the crowds can become a nightmare and the heat is even worse. It seems that it’s worth the extra drive to get up to Colorado for a good time out.
Another option if you would like a change of scenery is the Ozark’s in Arkansas which will take around 10 to 11 hours from Lubbock. Yes, it’s a long drive, but it just may be worth it if you want to get out of dodge. Well if you guys have any suggestions about great outdoor getaways within a reasonable distance, please let our community know.
